Don, I think you have a great idea. I think one of the advantages of this over a pure contest is that you'd end up with more patches being created and submitted. I know for a fact that there some people (some of whom are talented) are a bit intimidated by competition - they thing that their sounds aren't good enough, when in fact they are! Besides, everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Jeez, Dave threw a few of my personal favorite Evolver sounds way back there in Bank 3 obscurity (don't worry - I'm over it now, and have decided to go on with life!) ;) Yet on the other hand, a few of the "stinkers" I programmed (my own judgement) are featured prominently in the presets. Heck, Dave even made some additional edited versions of one or two of them! Anyway, the bottom line is that something one person finds horrible *might* be just the thing that someone else has been looking for to use in their latest song. Another idea: A "patch contest" and a "User Forum Soundset" COULD be combined. You could do it basically as a "User Forum Soundset", yet at the end, let the group judge the best patches in the lot. The best patches could be featured at the front of the list. You could have other "prizes", too. What's everyone else think? And who would be interested in programming some patches to share with everyone? Assuming that we do put together a collection of sounds, I volunteer to collect everyone's files and package the final product, including the documentation. I have a little experience in this area. We currently have a total of 169 patch/sample/other collections for the EX5 available at AMPFEA and EX5Tech. (Many of these are multi- archive downloads, so the total number of actual downloads is 290.) I packaged 78 of those 169. Of the 78, I actually authored or co- authored 27. If desired (or necessary), I'll also be happy to host or co-host the final product for downloading. The only thing I couldn't do would be to make a version of the file in Sound Diver format, but someone else could make that conversion if necessary. Of the three file formats mentioned, I think Sound Diver is probably the least important, anyway, though I'm sure that some would disagree! :) Ski www.ex5tech.com EX5Tech Evolver forum: http://www.ex5tech.com/ex5ubb_cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=23 --- In DSI_Evolver@yahoogroups.com, "Don Gothard \(dg\)" <gothard@s...> wrote: > As a suggestion I would add that rather than a "patch contest" which > implies some competition and reward, we do whats been done successfully > several times on the waldorf forum and make a "User Forum Soundset" > instead.
