Dave Smith Instruments SYNTHESIZERS

Here's a dumb question: after I make a good string patch and try to 
switch to unison mode the patch becomes percussive, it becomes even 
more pronounced when playing legato. The patch works fine in poly mode 
but doesn't want to work in mono or unison modes. What can I (or 
probably) be doing wrong? Thanks.
