I have always wondered why the Polyevolver only had 4 voices....thats pretty minimal for a 'modern' synth...especially a delux 'top of the line ' model. Most competitor synths in this 2-3500$ price range have 8-32 voices. Jeez, even their Prophet 08 has 8 voices and costs less than the PEK. I know DSI clearly suggests chaining multiple boards together but that is costly, and impractical for a performer. THere should have been at least 6-8 from the start. (even my 1984 Roland Juno 106 has 6).
My suggestion that i made direct to DSI was to create a 'Voice expansion kit " to install INSIDE the case of the POlyevolver. I had opened mine up and saw that HALF THE INSIDE OF THE CASE WAS EMPTY. the PC boards only fill about half the interior....there is room for MORE. The circuitry already has that 'polychain' midi connector built in, so its set up to add voices already. . I dont see why an additional set of 4 voices couldnt be set into another pc board and designed to be screwed in INSIDE the case.. there would have to be a few wiring adaptations to wire it internally, but the framework is all there to do it.
I have already suggested this to DSI's customer support site and they said it sounded like a good idea...perhaps more of you could join in and email them and also ask for this...maybe the pressure will inspire some action. [like an online petition.]
I love the PEK sounds, but the 4 voices is kinda lame in this modern world. especially with its complex combo possibilities. I KNOW this can be done and would only help DSI sell more against, lets say, the Andromeda/waldorfQ/nord /roland etc. that all offer LOTS more voices.
Dont just respond here....write direct to DSI's websiteMessage
