Sorry about that, Paul. Here's the entire forum thread ("Patch

interested in is the OS comment.

For anyone that hasn't already seen the discussion on Ravi's Evolver
Yahoo group, we're going to have a combination Patch Contest / User
Forum Soundset project. Check out the many posts at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dsi_evolver/ to catch up on the subject.
NOTE: This subject has already become quite fragmented in the Yahoo
group, with a lot of discussion in many separate posts. I thought it
would be a good idea to consolidate everything here in one topic
(thread) in the forum here. It should be a lot easier for members to
follow, and it will sure be a lot easier for me to keep up as members
of the community "pledge" to contribute patches.

Basically, we're asking for anyone that would like to participate to
make a "pledge" of how many patches they would like to contribute to
the Evolver "User Forum Soundset". When we get a little farther
along, we're going to decide upon a date by which the patches need to
be submitted.

Once everything is put together, we will have some sort of contest
(details to be determined) to choose the best patches of the lot. The
winning patches will be featured at the front of the Soundset, and
there may be other incentives as well... perhaps your winning patch
may even make it into the next version of the Evolver presets!

I volunteered to keep track of things, and to collect all the patch
files. I also volunteered to package the final product for
distribution to all members. If I had to guess, we'll probably make
this available at www.davesmithinstruments.com, at Ravi's Yahoo
group, and here at EX5Tech.

Sooo... without further ado, here is the list of Evolver owners that
have already "pledged", along with the number of patches they'll
contribute (please let me know if I've missed anyone):

Ravi Sharma - 932 patches/sequences ( Ha! I "pledged" for Ravi!)
Ski - 16 patches/sequences
Robert Shanks (synthlab) - ??? ("a good handful of twisted patches")
(1 delivered)
Kevin (spectralab1) - 20 patches/sequences
drK - ??? ("I'm game!" drK is an EX5 owner, too!)
Don Gothard - 10 patches
Swanoid - 10 sequences (*13* delivered!)
Gary (Mr. Rock) - 10 sequences (6 already delivered!)
Craig (mesadude) - ??? (1 sequence already delivered!)

TOTAL (pledged/delivered)- about 100 / 21

I will edit this post to keep the list above updated as we get
additional pledges below (or changes to existing pledges).

Patch programmers - When your files are complete, you can upload them
to a folder on the Yahoo group at the following link:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DSI_Evolver/files/2003_Patch_Collection/

If you have any difficulty with this, you can email your files
directly to me. My email address is available in my EX5Tech profile -
just click the little Rolodex card icon at the top of one of my posts.

Your files can be in either SYSEX (.syx) or MIDI (.mid) format. I
personally prefer SYSEX, but whatever you post/send is fine. PLEASE
be sure to Zip your file, and include some documentation of WHERE
your patches are in a bank, and very preferably patch names as well.
Any additional notes or comments about your patches would also be a
plus.

Please consider joining in the fun!

Thanks!

Tip:
Use random generator on the DSI and seek out the rough diamonds.

Emagic has a public beta of sounddiver.
It also has support for the Evolver (as well as my Polaris)
With that you can randomize your parameters quite easily and pretty
fast too.

Thanks, Fuse. Problem is, SoundDiver RANDOMLY crashed on every PC and
operating system I tried it on in my studio. I also didn't care for
the "it's not our fault" attitude from emagic regarding the
corruption of Voices read from the EX over MIDI (it's probably NOT
their fault, but that's no excuse for the attitude). In addition, I
really didn't care for their EX5 editor, which was a single monstrous
panel (like many SoundDiver editors) that you constantly had to
scroll back and forth and up and down in order to get around on. Very
inconvenient and time consuming. I can program faster on the EX5 LCD
screen. I took a little loss and sold my copy of SoundDiver to a guy
with a Triton. That was back in the MEL-LABS development days. And of
course, emagic is now Mac only.
Frequent crashes, bad attitude, mediocre editing panel, and they
don't support PC anymore. SoundDiver is not for me. If I ever do
anything with a commercial editor for the Evolver, I'll buy something
that allows you to build your own editor, or modify existing editor
panels (I think I remember that MIDIquest does that).

Besides... I can make random patches manually with ease on the
Evolver - you just close your eyes, and press every button followed
by every knob, in random order and in random amounts. How did you
think that I made all those Evolver sequences that I sampled and
looped?! Surely you didn't imagine that there was any talent
involved!?

Random patches and Divine Intervention, baby! That's my secret to
success!

Just a reminder that the original post in this topic (thread) is
a "living post"... I'm keeping it updated to reflect changes and
additions to the "pledge list". I also added a bit of information to
the post regarding file formats and related, as per Kevin's
suggestion.
Thanks.

Hi All,
Posted my second sequence over @ yahoo.

Let's just say I 'pledge' 10 sequences/patches for now.

Gary

Cool! Thanks, Gary. I'm off to pick it up now.
You know, we may just end up filling an entire Bank with this little
project.

It might be time to start discussing a deadline, too. Just to start
things off, I'll throw out March 31st as a possible cutoff date for
submissions. What's everyone think?

Well, let's see... so far, we already have some patches in hand
from "rock", and "mesa"... I'm beginning to detect a pattern here!
I'm guessing "canyon" or "granite" will be next.
Gary - I had a chance to listen to your sequences last night. I like
them a lot, especially "Happy1", though "Morton1" is a close second.
A *unique* second, too, I might add.

Craig - I've downloaded your sequence but haven't loaded into the
Evolver, yet. I read your notes regarding the persistent droning that
you couldn't figure out. I'll see if I can find exactly who the
culprit is and let you know.

Thanks guys.

Hi All,
I've uploaded two more patches to Yahoo. Both are patches and not
sequences - sorry guys, you'll have to hook a keyboard up to your
evolvers.

'SpaceVox' is a kind of, well, spacey voice sound. Cutoff frequency
responds to aftertouch.

'Voice1' is a sort of throaty vocal sound similar to one found on
some of Tomita's pieces. Uses filter split and Highpass filter to get
a pseudo comb filter effect. Cutoff frequency responds to aftertouch
and the mod wheel. Play the mod wheel to get the best 'vocal' sound.

Enjoy!

Regards,
Gary

Everyone - My fault, as I've been swamped at work, but we really need
to set a deadline for submissions for the User Forum Soundset so that
we keep the ball rolling here.
What's everyone think about setting a deadline at the end of April?

No comments, huh???
OK. I'm going to have to make a "command decision" then, and call it
end of April for the deadline.

Dave said in a recent email, "I'm thinking early summer I'll update
the factory presets, along with adding at least a couple new features
to the OS."

(Hooray! for new features!!! :) )

I want the members of our user community to have a chance for their
cool patches/sequences to end up in the "version 2" presets of our
favorite mini-BlueMax. By wrapping up submissions at the end of
April, that will give me a little bit of time to compile everything
into a nice release in time for "early summer".

So get programming programming programming!

p.s. to Stefan (aka Bluescreen) and Boele - What would it take for me
to convince you two guys to participate? The recent songs you've made
are fantastic (thanks again for sharing), but you made some great
*sounds* and sequences in there, too! I know everyone else would love
to get their grubby paws on some of your patches/sequences.
