Sequencer tip for longer patterns and live tweaking

Sequencer tip for longer patterns and live tweaking

2003-05-07 by pela_gius

I was trying to find a way to set up 4 different note sequences on the 4 tracks
of the sequencer and switch between them on the fly and it came to me this
morning.

I set all 4 sequence destinations to an unused parameter and programmed a
different melody on each track. Then Modulation 1 is set with all OSCs as the
destination and 100 as the amount. By switching Mod 1 Source between Seq
1, 2, 3 and 4 you can change between the 4 patterns without losing the beat.

Fortunately the sources before and after Seq1,2,3,4 are OFF and LFO1 so if
you twist the knob a little too far it's not a big deal. Turning it all the way to
OFF will just play the base note and you can switch LFO1 to something
interesting like Random and throw little extra random notes into the
sequence.

As an added bonus the Mod1 Source knob is right next to the highpass knob
so you can tweak that at the same time to drop bass notes in and out.

Hey, very clever! Thanks for sharing the tip.

I'm going to have to start collecting these. If we get enough cool
tips like this, at some point maybe I could put them all together
into an "Evo Power User Tips" PDF manual or something.

Yeah, that would be great. I've read through the archives and there are lots of
good tips but it's hard to remember them all. Some kind of reference page
would be nice. Maybe it could just be a collection of links to the relevant posts
on the yahoogroups site.

I'm just starting to realize how powerful the 4 mods are. At first I just ignored
them, not knowing what they were for. Today I made a patch where the Pan
parameter was being modulated by the sequencer but I was getting a bad
clicking sound on each step. But by modulating the pan through a Mod
instead and backing off of the mod amount a little the click went away.

I'd love to hear any creative ways that people are using the Mods. There must
be a lot of interesting things that could be done by modulating something with
a positive amount of a certain source and then modulating something else
with a negative amount of the same source through a Mod. I hope that made
sense. I think I'll give it a try.
