that syncing feeling....

that syncing feeling....

a midi merge or splitter would do the job (splitter is cheaper), but, i'm assuming yer running some kinda midi sequencing s/w ??
i only know Logic, but, reckon it may apply - there should be a setting in yer s/w seq to enable a *soft* midi thru.

I have the following set up on my lappy:
controller k/b midi out --> pc midi in --> [s/w seq midi thru]
then, pc midi out --> wee blue beastie midi in

(my set up is actually more complex but that's the gist of it!)
you can then select the DSI from yer arrange page of the midi seq and then (assuming all the channels are correctly set up in s/w) playing the k/b will trigger the DSI via the sequencer (and, if *record* is enabled also record the playing as midi data) the only drawback with this simple set up is tha there's no recording of DSI knob tweakings but otherwise works well.

Thanks for the advice, Graeme

I just attempted your scheme with my setup. My only sequencer
currenty is Project 5, which has midi sync. But so far the Evolver
hasn't responded happily to my attempts. I set Midi recieve to ON,
Midi Clock setting to IN, Trigger select to ALL. But when I press
play on my sequencer (with midi sync on & desired output settings) -
no dice so far. I also wasn't sure if there were anything else I
should do to get evolver ready to recieve via midi sync. Of course
the problems could be somewhere else but judt thought I'd check to
get the Evolver side of it straight.

Evolver make a good laptop companion as it's really small and fits
nicely next to the laptop on my desk! I hope I can get this
working!!!!

Are the midi channels set correctly (hmm, is clock sync channel-specific)?

Yeah it's a great form factor; fits nicely in the blank spot on a nord lead
too. I wish more manufacturers would make 'em this size...

MIDI clock is never channel-dependent, regardless of
the piece of gear in question, so I highly doubt that
is the problem...

Is there a shareware type program that will enable your computer to
act as a midi thru? I have a feeling midi-ox or midi yoke, but wasn't
able to tell from their website...too complicated for my simple mind.
I don't have a real audio/midi sequencer (like to get sonar 2.2
eventually) as of yet and what I'm using doesn't let me midi thru to
the evolver.
Thanks,

Rick
