has anyone tried using the doepfer pocket control with the evolver? is
it a good match? does the pocket control have a preset that works well
with the evolver? or will i need to reprogram the pocket control from
a computer?

after doing a little more research i think the answer to my question
is no. the pocket control cannot send sysex messages and i guess that
is what the evolver needs.

ideally i would like small controller that i do not have to program
through a computer. are there any small midi controllers that can
"learn" how to control the evolver by listening to the sysex messages
it broadcasts when you adjust parameters?

does anyone know anything about the MAM (Music and More) MCB4
controller? it appears to have some sort of learning function but i'm
having trouble finding any information about what it does.

I set up the evolver sequencer programmer for the doepfer drehbank 
in 15 minutes, using a PC. 

However I wouldn't call the drehbank small and portable.

Given the fact that each of the parameters in the evolver  can be 
addressed (programmed) by a simple and standard sysex sequence makes 
creating a template pretty fast. 
And the nice thing is that it responds to these changes without 
glitches while playing (something I can't say about other synths for 
which I programmed a control surface). I think that a generic editor 
for the evolver would take me maximum a couple of hours to do on the 
drehbank (I just don't need it).
