problems with Midi-Ox

2003-09-25 by Stefan Weber

Hi,

I envy you all already teasting beta 1.5 as I'm having problems transferring
the sysex-files to the synth. After installing Mid-Ox (which went perfectly)
I followed ski's instructions on downloading the files (thank you for
instructing, ski!). The transmission of data began ok but about half way through an
error message occured reading: "SysEx Output Devices: MMSYSTEM067..." and
something like data are being transmitted to the device; repeat the procedure
as soon as the transmission is completed. This does not make sense to me so I
am wondering if someone had the same problem?

Thanks a lot, Stefan.

In MIDI-OX, click the Options > Configure Buffers menu/command. In
the resulting "Configure SysEx Buffers" dialog box, set the "Low
Level Output Buffers" as follows:

Size: 1,024 Bytes
 Num: 128

This should take care of your problem. Do note that with more and
larger buffers, MIDI-OX is going to be finished sending the SysEx
messages long before the Evolver is done processing them. Make sure
to let the Evolver finish the upgrade process as described in Dave's
document.

Also make very sure that the Evolver is not powered off during this
procedure (again, as cautioned in Dave's document). I highly
recommend the use of a UPS, especially if you live in an area that
has dodgey power.

(This info is posted at EX5Tech as well, should you need it again in
the future, and find that it's been deleted here.)

There's only like a 10-second window-of-vulnerability, right (from the
end of reception to the end of burning)? It'd require amazingly bad
luck for the power to go out _just then_...

The power doesn't really even have to "go out" to cause a problem.
Where I live, the power very frequently has "dips", in which all the
lights in the house will dim significantly for a few seconds. It's
pretty nasty on anything and everything electronic. I've lost two
TV's to these dips.

So the bottom line for me is that it DOESN'T take an incredible
coincidence for the power to cause a problem during the "10 second
window". :)

In addition to the computers, my entire synth rig is on UPS. It is
WAY too cheap not to have that insurance. Simple surge protectors do
not suffice as protection against the power dips and outages.
