Editor buglist/wishlist

Editor buglist/wishlist

2004-08-23 by Richard Scott

Is there one? Maybe we should compile a list for the pC and Mac versions so our gripes are at least collected in one place; Here is my little start - it will be a long list!
I'm on PC. My main problem is that without a manual it is difficult to know what is going on - what is in the evolver and what is in the editor is not always clear. I'm not at all convinced it behaves consistantly in what is saved and what isn't.
The genetix thing is crazy, as patches that you save in the list sound completely different when I reopen them. I mean it just doesn't seem to work in any sane way.
I keep loosing contact with my yamaha WX5 connected as a keyboard, esp. in gentix this happens all the time and I need to keep restarting the program.
Wishes:
more sequencer functionality! I'd like to be able to
randomise/invert etc within a particular scale... have more arpeggio shapes
and different kinds of stepping - just more more more really as I find the
sequencer great for noise stuff but not so accessible for melody -
the software goes partway to addressing this but a little more would seal
the deal

if the editor could remember the last place it saved to it would help.

gentix needs a single button to lock all pitches on all osc when randomising

I'd love to be able to print out the contents of banks from the editor as well - with the evo lacking a display these bits of paper could be very useful

the osc readout could be in notes rather than numbers, like the synth - and a quickway of shifting whole octaves would be a nice timesaver too...

a question: if I want save the current settings of a patch within the evo
and I scroll thru the evo bank to hear which existing patch i can overwrite
then I lose the patch I've been editing. Is there anyway around this?
Richard

I think you can do this if you utilize the phantom banks feature.
You should get familiar with this as it's a top benefit of the
editor. I don't have any of those bugs you mention (I'm n PC), but I
do agree with you about the random patch generator (The results are
just horrible IMO).

soundtower for mac osX:

+ it's a massive resource hog, crawls on my g4, and is generally unusable.
+ i can't get it to dump patches from my evolver
+ the envelope in the editor are in something like a zero-state whenever i open the
editor window.

in the "gripe" category, i think it could be laid out better to reflect the signal
flow and i'd love for it to look a little less like shareware - that last one's only
half-facetious.

As far as I can tell, the big problem with the genetics has to do with the
sequencer. It seems that whatever patch you last had opened when
you enter the genetics window is the one that plays as you preview the
new random patches. It isn't even neccessarily the sequence of the
patch you're trying to morph but whichever one was last selected. So
then when you save the genetically engineered patches that you like
they have some other crazy sequence which of course sounds totally
different. There may be other strange inconsistencies as well but that
one was the most obvious to me. I find the whole thing to be a huge
bummer because the genetics feature was the only reason I bought the
editor. If I'm programming my own patches from scratch I can do that
just fine on the Evolver itself without the hassle of hooking it up to the
computer.

(This is all regarding the Mac OS X version BTW).
