Free utility for uploading custom wave shapes

Free utility for uploading custom wave shapes

2004-10-29 by Daz Richards

Hi All,

I remember reading this comment :

"Waveshapes 96 – 128 are user programmable in Evolver via MIDI,
assuming someone builds an editor of some sort some day."

... when I got my Evolver last month and thought "I wonder if
someone will write a decent editor". I wondered even about writing
an editor myself ... albeit briefly ;-) I already have some
perfectly good wave editing facilities, so why write one from
scratch. I figured I'd write something altogether simpler, in a
couple of hours, that would allow me to send a wave file I've
created in an editor to the Evolver via MIDI.

Read more about it over at the ex5tech.com board :

Cheers,

Daz.

You're welcome :-)

I've just upload a new version in which I've added the ability to
import wav files longer than 128 samples. If the file is longer than
128 samples then it is downsampled (in a quick and dirty fashion)
and you will see a small red '*' in the wave display warning you
that I've messed with your waveform ;-) For best results always use
a 128 sample length file ... this feature is just for fun ...
although it seems to work quite well :-)

Latest news ... there are now both Windows and Mac OS X flavours of
the app available from the link Ravi posted above.

Enjoy,

I might have encountered a small bug here...
Just tested this for the first time to see if the waveform I had drawn was
ok, and the graph went all over the screen, not just in the square where I
reckon it should've been... I tested the files that were in the zip, and
the result was the same. I didn't dare to try to upload them to the Evolver...
I'm on win98 if that might have something to do with it.

I suspect you might be right, there some might be some
incompatibility between the way I draw that graph and Windows 98. I
used Windows XP for the development and don't have access to Win 9x
for testing. Anyone else seen the same ?

"the graph went all over the screen, not just in the square where I
reckon it should've been"

I suspect the reason for this is that ye olde Windows 9x flavours
are partially 16 bit in nature and that may be screwing my drawing
code's maths as it was built on a "pure" 32 bit platform.

Here is a version that detects the Windows version it's running on
and modifies the drawing technique used and hopefully will address
that problem :

http://www.irishacts.com/~daz/evo9x.zip

... let me know how that behaves on your 9x box.

HTH,

Daz.

It works like a charm!! :)
Thanks!
Now I'll dare to try it out...

Free utility for uploading custom wave shapes - updated.

2004-11-18 by Daz Richards

http://www.irishacts.com/~daz/evo_wave_dump.php

[Windows]Version 1.3 adds compatibility for Windows 98 as well as
Windows XP.

[Mac OS X]Version 1.1 fixes a dumbass bug so it now sends the
waveshape correctly to the Evolver. Unfortunately as I am sharing
the code base between Mac and Windows I managed to break the Mac
version after testing and before release - by making a change to the
Windows version. Doh !!! ;-)

Enjoy !

Thanks for the SID waveforms !
