Re: [Evolver] Re: Envelope triggering

Re: [Evolver] Re: Envelope triggering

2003-01-13 by Woody Wall

Tried both of those. Key Mode only affect incoming MIDI notes and my
envelopes are short. I've worked around it by using Evolver as the master.
Pressing Reset on the Evolver doesn't set the 505 to the beginning of the
sequence, though, so I have to do each individually. Not a major
inconvenience, but it's nice to use the transport controls on the 505 to do
it all.

Sounds like tyou have the start/continue/stop TX enabled on your MC505 but
not the Sequencer midi out on the MC505. So the evolver tries to start
because it gets the start message, but it isn't getting any clock from the
MC505. CHeck the 505 to make sure.

Re: [Evolver] Re: Envelope triggering

2003-01-13 by Woody Wall

MIDI out is enabled on the 505 and the Evolver syncs and follows the tempo
changes. It works fine when I use a 505 sequencer part to trigger Evolver as
a sound module. I just want to use Evolver's internal sequencer, but the
envelopes don't trigger when MIDI Clock is set to In or I-O.

Re: [Evolver] Re: Envelope triggering

2003-01-13 by Ravi Sharma

WHen you say th Evolver syncs and follows tempo changes, do you mean you are
running the elvolver sequencer and it slows down and speeds up as you change
the tempo on the MC505? Or do you mean that the time dependent LFO's and
delay's inside the Evolver's patches change according to the tempo of the
MC505? If not these two things then I guess you mean that the Evolver
happily plays along as a static sound source triggered by the mc505, and of
course it tracks tempo changes. However unless you are acheiving the above
two examples, then you may still not have the CLOCK set to EXT in the mc505
(even though midi is still transmitted) the clock out setting on the mc505
is not under "shift midi" but under "shift sequencer."

I am sorry if you did all this before, but I can't tell from your email
whether indeed you have the clock out set to on rather than off.

Both of these things are happening, so it looks like the Evolver is
receiving clocks. It's just that the Evolver envelopes only trigger when I
press Play on the 505, but don't trigger on each step of the Evolver
sequencer as I expected that they would.

I assume here that you're referring to using one of the 505 tracks to send
MIDI notes to Evolver. That works perfectly; just as if I had my keyboard
controller plugged into the Evolver.

>
>I am sorry if you did all this before, but I can't tell from your email

No problem. It doesn't hurt to triple check when there are so many variables
involved. In any case I got the results I wanted by using Evolver as the
master rather than the slave.

After looking at the Trigger Select description in the manual, it seems I
may have been making an an unwarranted assumption. In reference to Combo
mode, the manual says "envelopes will only be triggered when a MIDI note is
held *AND* the sequencer is running." So I assumed a logical AND of the MIDI
gate and sequencer gate, which is not the case. Call up factory patch 72 in
bank 3, start the sequencer, then press a key on your MIDI controller. The
envelopes only trigger on the key down, not on every sequencer step. Not
exactly the same situation as above, but related. Perhaps this is what Dave
intended; it's just not what I expected from the description.

Sorry if this is long and incoherent. It's late and I'm off to bed now.
