MEK Sustain Pedal Polarity Problem

MEK Sustain Pedal Polarity Problem

2006-07-22 by Ben Schomp

Hi all! My first post, woo hoo!

I've been searching around but haven't found any mention of my
problem, so here goes.

My brand new MEK just arrived (conveniently enough, my wife took the
kids to her parents for a birthday part for 2 days). Everything is
grand (the thing looks, sounds, and feels amazing) except I can't get
any of my sustain/damper pedals to work right.

Here's what I've tried with all 3 of my pedals (none of which I know
their normally open/closed behavior):
1. Power off MEK.
2. Plug in pedal into "sustain" jack.
3. Play a note - it sustains.
4. Press the pedal - it cuts off.
5. Navigate to the Dampler Polarity setting and change it.
6. Same pedal behavior.
7. Cycle power to the MEK.
8. Same pedal behavior.

Has anyone else had luck switching the polarity setting for their
damper pedal, specifically on an MEK?

Thanks,
-Ben.

Ben,
I had some similar issues with setting up sustain pedal for my PEK, but
here's what I did: turned on the PEK, plugged in the pedal. Notes held until
pedal was depressed. Flip polarity in the menu and it worked. I know that's
pretty much what you're doing, but for me, I had to keep flipping that
polarity plus to minus and back several times before it would kick in.
However, once it did, I've never had to set it again, so hopefully that'll
work for you. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip Mark, but I tried that this morning and it still
doesn't work. I probably flipped plus to minus 40 times and no "kick
in" for me.

I guess I'll email Dave Smith if this isn't a known and fixable problem.

Anyone else have PEK/MEK pedal polarity issues?

Thanks again,
-Ben.
