VA release not working?

VA release not working?

2006-11-18 by painjunkie23

I am still learning the full depth of this synth and all it's signal path possibilities - so this
might be something obvious to someone else.

If I have the VCA set to 100% envelope, and set a short release time, I find that I can still
hear the oscillator humming in the background as a constant after the release time has
passed.

I checked to see if there were any delay or feedback settings that might be causing a small
amount of sound to be looped back into the signal path, but this stuff is all set to zero.
the filter is not self oscillating - but there is sound, quiet mind you, but still sound.

What could be going on here?

There is a 'vca level' control in addition to the envelope amount. This
allows you to 'drone' the oscillators. Make sure it is at zero for normal
synth behavior.

Thanks. that's exactly what was confusing me. I'm used to the idea of 100% envelope
being, well, 100% envelope.

Scott.

hey scott!

you should probably read the evolver's manual (I know it's a boring
thing to do compared to just playing with parameters, especially if you
already know synths) and study the evolver's signal flow. It's not like
anything else out there, and a very complex beast for a monosynth - and
there's a fair bit to know about the feedback/delay sections, and how
the step sequencer operates with the synth parameters.

Well it is 100%. :)

The VCA level is independant of envelope...think of it as the "lower
limit" setting but it doesn't have to be silence, it can be set higher.

For a fun, comprehensive introduction to the Evolver, please check out
Anu Kirk's "Definitive Guide to the Evolver" it has the best
descriptions of the blue skinned beast I know of:
