The knobs (most knobs) send out SysEx data.

I think so

I can't tell you if you should keep it. It works in any case. You need a
second pair of inputs in your mixer however.
For my kind of estimated 250 voice arrangements it doesn't matter if I have
4, 5 or 8 voices because I need to multitrack anyway ;)
In the beginning when I only had a PER I had to get used to tzhe 4 note
limit because I come from the piano and thus am used to trigger full hand
chords. But nit didn't take long until I became confortable with the limited
polyphony. I've simply learned to avoid the additional left hand octaved
bass note, that would spoil the mix anyway, when playing pads with the right
hand.

For those who love sounds with long release times an 8 voice KB+rack version
might make sense however.

Greets

Do you like weighted keys?
I like my extreme for full range use ..
works great with the PEK too btw ...
the knobs on the PEK don't send out any midi, sysex ...
I would not consider the PEK a midi controller type synth...
oh, nope the extreme also makes for a rotten midi controller...
Just to work midi I have a microkontroler but
I would look at the m-audio or the Chinese midi controllers for just midi ...
PEK for what it is. The only thing I think it would be the best controller for is the rack version of the PEK. ;-)
sure notes on, off stuff like that is fine from it's keys ...
don't look at ION or Micron either .. they don't fare well as midi controls as well...
but you already know that on the ION, it's limited range on the knobs for midi cc is just ... well I leave the adjective out ...
why so little use on the ION?

I am seriously considering purchasing a Poly Evolver Keyboard.

It would act as a master keyboard controller for my studio (replacing a
just-sold DX7II FD) and be my primary programming synth (likely means
I'd sell my little-used Alesis Ion).

Some questions for those who have it:
- What bugs currently exist?
- Do the knobs send out MIDI? If so, what kind?
- Is it worth it?
- Should I keep my desktop Evolver for use as a 5th voice? Has anyone
actually done this? How does it work?

Given that I have about $2400 to spend on a master keyboard/synth,
anyone in the group have any other suggestions? I want a decent
keyboard, but I am not a very good player, so I don't need or want full
weighted action.

I need at least the 61 keys the PEK provides (Ion, Nord, etc. only have
49) but my studio desk won't easily support anything larger than that.
