"Free Run" Combo Mode for PEK an PER

"Free Run" Combo Mode for PEK an PER

2007-05-20 by nick

for live improvisation the actual implementation of the combo mode is
very limiting: Changing a program (bank) within a combo stops
immediately the sequencer parts running on other programs. What about a
special "free run" combo mode which uses exclusively programm data
so each evolver voice can be played like a independent standalone
evolver. In combo mode it would be also very useful, when the name of a
selected program can be displayed.

I agree with that.

a bit same as when you change combo, then all sequencers stop. this is
actually a "new feature" since os 2 (or 3 for the MED). I never
understood why adding this limitation. Dave told me that otherwise it
can get messy in combo mode. still cannot understand why it would be a
problem, as the seq could be disabled per patch if unwanted. maybe there
is a good reason behind that...
i have also seen people reporting this problem in various forum.

anyway. the workaround i found is to use "midi gate reset", and have an
external seq send constant midi notes. not a perfect workaround though.
if using hardware sequencers then the evolver max loop length is the
same as the hardware sequencer.
therefore it prevents from having slightly random evolving pattern.
i guess nobody is perfect :)

cheers

mat.
