Triggering Drum Sounds with Drum pads through the Audio Inputs

I am working on this, and it seems to respond as fast as a CV/gate triggering (faster than MIDI. My main instrument is the drum set). On the other hand, I get slightly different-sounding results. Would you kindly offer hints on what parameters to adjust or work on in order to maximize the response and sound?
