question about slow attack on evelopes

question about slow attack on evelopes

2007-09-07 by dhamaryder

Hi Guys and Girls, I'm working on a patch that uses ring modulation with oscillators 3&4
levels set to zero, so only the resultant tones sound. I wanted to make a slow attack so I
set both the LPF and VCA to very slow attack. I wanted to make it so that as I played each
new key the attack would be slow. But what happens is that as I play each new key I get a
sharp attack for each new note(like a bell sound). I really want to take off the attack sound
for each noew note sounding but don't know how to do it or why it keeps sounding as if I
have it on short attack. All of the other modulators are off or set to zero, including env. 3.
Any ideas on how to accomplish what I'm looikng for?
thanks a lot,
steve

silly me. You have to let the note release completely before playing again. then the slow
attack works. sorry.

In this case you can play around with the portamento (Glide) as well, to
get more of a slow attack effect from note to note.

Sorry if you've already checked this, but is this just a matter of
needing to change the "Key Mode" to a setting with "Retrigger", such
that each key press retriggers the envelopes?

Thanks Ski, what happens is after I play a note, since it has a long release, I have to wait
until the note has faded out for the most part before a retriggering of the envelopes(with a
very slow attack) will actually sound like a retriggering. Say if it has only released to 50% if
I retrigger it the attack will start right at that 50% rather than at 0(like it would if I had let it
fade out completely), so it sounds like a sharp attack.

OK, yeah, you're just going to have to go with a shorter release, or
more polyphony!
