Sequencer and Key GatesSeqOnce question

Sequencer and Key GatesSeqOnce question

2010-07-27 by igrovo

I'm a newbie but did already do a search to try to find help on this. First I'll explain the setup for my question. I selected Program 128 bank 1 which shows "Basic Program" and I believe is essentially an almost blank slate to work with. I am using the Sequencer on my MEK and set the destination for sequence 1 to OscAllFreq. Then set some of the steps for example 1,2,3 and 4 to any note. Then I set step 5 to "Reset". I also set under Misc params the "Trigger Type" to "Key GatesSeqOnce". If I play a note on the keyboard it will step through the steps 1 through 4 but then it will play step 1 again and then stop. My question is why would it do this? I thought that it would play steps 1 through 4 and then stop. Thanks in advance for your patience and help.

Because that's just the way it works. This confused me for a while, too. It is mentioned in the manual, although you need to read between the lines a bit.

"START/STOP starts and stops the sequencer; the RESET button will reset the sequence to step one if the sequencer is running or not running. While the sequencer is running, if you hold the SHIFT button when you hit the STOP button, the sequence will continue running until finished (according to the length of Sequence 1), and will stop AFTER playing step 1."

The "one shot" modes (N5I and N1R) work the same as SHIFT/STOP, step 1 will play again at the end.
