physical modeling?

physical modeling?

2003-02-28 by Collin <collin_meyer@yahoo.com>

has anyone tried to make any plucked string emulations or wind
instruments using the delay and feedback lines? if you've had any
success I'd love to know about it and how you did it.

yes I have, but I must confess it was a while ago and
somewhat of happy accident. I'll upload the patches to
the group when I get home later and you can
investigate it for yourself.

I have one that vaguely resembles a harp being plucked
and a few that vaguely resemble a violin greatly
amplified by some means or another.

cheers,
kevin

cool, it would be neat to see your patches. I've tried to do it
several times and haven't had much luck, but I don't really know what
I'm doing. I did manage to get some interesting clarinet-like tones
out of it while I was tweaking but I couldn't make anything that was
controllable... it just kind of did unpredictable things. so I
didn't save my results. i know people have done some interesting
things with the Waldorf Q's comb filter to this end and some also
with the nord modular. I'm not sure if the evolver's facilites are
quite as suited to this task though.
