DRONES

2003-03-07 by Simon

Could someone explain the Drone phenomenon on the Evo ?
I take any patch, turn up the filter or vca
and let the tweaking begin ! It really opened some new
territories for me. I'm still a student of the electronic world and i
was wondering why is the Evolver so good at this and not other
synths ?
And how / why does it work ?

Thanks for any comments

Well, the Amp section has an extra control called VCA Level that
basically allows you to move the zero point (silence) of the
amplifier up. If you crank it all the way up it essentially overrides
the Envelope section and produces sound at full volume constantly (a
drone).

It was a more common feature on older synths...the SCI Pro-One comes
to mind. Les'see...who designed that? I can't remember... ;)
It made it easier tweak with both hands - just flip the Drone switch
and you don't have to keep hitting the keys to make sound.
