$400 is not too bad if all works- check drumbalaya's (www.drumbalaya.com) bargain bin for the price of old controllers- the seem to be around $300 or so so the whole outfit for $400 is pretty good. The base pad is infamous for giving folks fits and pads do fail after some time. I keep a DTX1 at the place where I practice with friends and it still works.
