Noise Reduction

2001-05-25 by dave.daniels@marconi.com

Hi guys,

I've good method for significantly reducing the noise from playing on
a DTXpress, kick pad and all.
I've used this method in the past a lot to minimise acoustic kit
mechanical vibration, and it works well, thought I've never tried on
a DTX as I'm fortunate enough not to have noise problems.

Visit the local car tyre centre, and ask for 4 old tyres of the same
type/size. Now take a sheet of hardboard, big enough to fit the
DTXPress and your stool on. Use bolts to mount the 4 tyres in each
corner of the board.
Now put the board on the floor (tyres on the ground!), put the
DTXpress and stool on top, and play away.
If you use a really big board, you will need an additional tyre to
add support, but you want to avoid this if possible, as the more
contact you have with the floor, the more vibration will be
transmitted.

Yes the platform will move slightly when you sit at the kit, but not
much, and if the kick pad noise is what's preventing you from
playing, a little movement is easy to live with if means you can play
again.

Hope this help.
