Parabele,

Sorry that you've been waiting so long. I don't have any experience
with a malletKat, though I have connected other KAT MIDI devices to a
Yamaha module. Basically, what you have to do is find free MIDI notes
on the DTXpress, attach these MIDI notes to a Yamaha voice, and enter
these new MIDI note numbers on the KAT as necessary. The note
selection process on the DTXpress takes place in the Utility Mode, 5.
Map Group, 5.1 Voice. You have to scroll through the numbers in 5.1
until you find a block of open ones and then assign DTXPress voices
to them, one by one, for use with the KAT. The DTXpress doesn't have
a wealth of free notes but usually enough for most purposes. This
process detaches voices from automatic assignment to MIDI notes by
input within each kit. After you've matched numbers to voices, you
can also set other MIDI parameters for them in 5.2, etc. But if you
don't circumvent the DTXpress default mapping, the voices that you
hear will bear no relation to what you expected. But you noticed that
already.
