DTX and Cakewalk- Is this possible?

2001-06-03 by kenlow@vnet.net

Here's what I'd like to do: Assign pads 1-8 to differant MIDI
channels and then play the song and record the drum kit with each DTX
pad sending MIDI data to an assigned MIDI channel in Cakewalk Pro
Audio 6.0. Then have Cakewalk play back the multi-channel MIDI
sequence through the DTX brain and still be able to set individual pad
values for voice, pitch, velocity, pan, etc.

First of all: This is actually possible...Right?

Secondly: I've been reading both the CW and DTX manuals and it looks
like this is going to involve sending SysEx messages from CW to the
DTX to select a drum kit # and then use the buttons on the DTX the
usual way to set the desired pad values. Is that the general idea? I
realize this probably invovles too many steps to deal with in one Q/A
but I'd appreciate any help to at least get started out right and then
I'll follow up from there.

thanks,
Hooper
