Hi John, and welcome. You've been loyal to the KP-60 long enough. Thankfully, the 65 version doesn't seem to suffer the same problems as its predecessor. However, it has a couple of its own--namely rubber and foam that are subject to deterioration before their time. Reinforcing the surface with a rubber pad or a bass drum patch can help prevent early problems. Most of the kick drum pads from other companies are large and dependable (though not all of the mesh ones will thrive with the DTXpress), but if you want to leave Yamaha and stay rubber, check out the rarely mentioned DrumTech Kick Pad. It's big, extraordinarily sturdy and strong, and compatible with the DTXpress. Drumbalaya sells it. Ed
