Cleaning

2005-06-03 by Ernie Vega

This was asked in the DTX forums..

What should I use to clean my pads with?

K...I'm going to address this question with my scientific opinion.
Please feel free to reply if you disagree or agree with me.

CLEANING RUBBER(in general)

I have seen that alcohol is one of the preferred methods of cleaning
solvents. I have seen this it won't deteriorate the pads. But, is that
true? Well, when you look at what applications that alcohol is used
for, you wouldn't use it on the triggers. Over time, alcohol
deteriorates rubber, and other similar porous matter. Not as quickly
as something like acetone, but it will eat the rubber.

With that said, I looked for an alternate solution that would clean
and restore the rubber pads. The best solution, that I found, was
trusty old' "Armor All" The latest formula is specially designed to
restore and beatify rubber and plastic material. Not like the formula
from the 90's which pretty much just made your tires shine.

So, I took a cleaner like "Windex" (w/o vinegar) to clean the pads.
Taking a clean rag and cleaning any visible stick marks and let it dry
completely (about 10 minutes). Then applied the Armor All……It looked
AWESOME! Not only did they look almost new, the Armor All helps
preserve and protect.

So, that's my input. Hope it helps.
