Hooking up the DTX to a computer

Hello again;
Here's my second question:
Is anyone using the 8 Pin Mini-DIN to D-Sub 9 (serial port) hookup with their DTX?
I'm having trouble finding the cable locally, and will probably just order one off the internet.
How does it work out compared to the USB to MIDI hookup?
What is a good USB to MIDI cable to use. I read where the Yamaha one sucks, so I'm looking for something else.
Any recommendations?
