Re: Buying a DTXpress

2005-08-30 by zapaxe

Hi BH,

I bought the DTXpress I kit about 4 or 5 years ago? New from
Musician's Friend before the II & III's came out. I bought a used
DTXpress III module and I use both modules together with my extensive
added trigger pads and rack extention's.
Since I got the III module, I've picked up a 3-zone snare pad which is
cool. I've also added several tom & cymbal pads along with two single
kick trigger towers to each module, and a separate Hi-Hat trigger to
each module which I control with one Hi-Hat foot controller with a
stereo Y splitter I made.

As for the comment on mesh pads, I've never played on one except for a
minute at Guitar Center, but I'm a guitarist, and bought my ekit & add-
ons for my home studio which I mostly use when I need drums, and I jam
for fun too. I've never had much of a problem with my wrists hurting,
but I genereally only play them for about 1-3 hours tops at a time.

As for a good price? It seems that the DTXpress III kit new is about
$1,000.00 or so and the DTXpress III Special is about $1,300.00 Plus???
Hmmm...chech some sites, as I've seen the prices havent been all that
different.
You can buy a used older kit, I or II or III, say from ebay? Or a
music store? I've seen kits go for around $600.00 or less used?
Personally I like to look of the older black rack tubing. But consider
that the DTXpress I has mostly single trigger pads. That was still ok
for me cause' I use them for Toms etc...while my extra dule trigger
pads & cymbal pads get used. No problem cause I have actually 3
modules for almost endless trigger inputs :o

I think only the III kit came with the kick trigger? I know the I kit
definately did not. Thrones cost from bout' $40.00 to over $100.00 &
up.

Good luck, steve
