The Dtxpress I module had stereo two zone inputs for 1-8 and a dual zone input for 9/10. The Dtxpress II and III (both std. & spec.) modules had stereo three zone inputs for 2,6,7 and stereo two zone for inputs 1,3,4,5,8 and dual zone input for 9/10. The Dtxpress I and III modules would allow for choking on cymbal pads on inputs 1-8. The original Dtxpress II only allow for choking on inputs 2,6,7. With an replacement ROM chip, the Dtxpress II could choke on inputs 1-8. On the Dtxpress III module input 8 has a special mode so that if you set it up as a trigger type RHH130 the choking is disabled. The self-choking that is being described, is either a technical issue, the cymbals prefer a glancing bow, as oppose to a straight down strike. When you strike the edge and the stick remains in contact with the edge for more than an instant, the module interprets it has you physically holding on to the edge and thus chokes the sound. Only the PCY65S/PCY80S/PCY130S/PCY150S cymbal pads can be choked. The pad must have a rim zone. The PCY80/PCY65/PCY130 single pads cannot be choked. I'm sure that wasn't in the documentation... thats great news though. Let me just check before I get excited: we are talking about a standard dtxpress III. There are two triangular shaped cymbal triggers, one of which is a two zone cymbal (the other is a single zone). The only visual difference between the two is that the two zone has a line following the perimeter of the 'arc' about 1 inch away from it, which form the second surface to hit for the diffeent sound. The two zone is usually used as a ride on the premade patches, so I guess you're talking about what I have labelled as the 'signle zone' trigger, which in actual fact must be a dual zone too, just with a different positioned secondary zone which cannot be hit, but rather squeezed. And you just squeeze this at the edge somewhere after hitting it, and the sound sort of cuts out. Have I got it right?
