RE: Spam:[DTXpress] Re: Kick Drum Cutting Out

2006-03-06 by Damon, Rob

This is going back several years, so my memory is vague, but I seem to
remember reading a post many, many years ago about another member having
similar problems. They found a ground loop between the metal frame of
the kick pad and the other pads. Their solution was to put a rubber pad
under the kick frame, thus isolating it. This may have nothing to do
with your problem, but I figured I would pass it on anyway.

Do you have the standard or special version of the Dtxpress III. If the
special, then if you are heavy footed, and depending on the floor
surface, you could be transmitting vibrations from the kick frame to
the hihat stand. Reducing your rejection settings may help.

One way to check to see if it is a polyphonic issue, is to un-plug all
of the pads, except the two that are interfering with each other and
play the song that you are having a problem with. With only a few pads
plugged in, if you are still having cut outs, it's probably not a
polyphonic issue.

The KP65 does have a problem that has been identified by Yamaha Japan.
After a short time the foam backing develops a dimple and the wave form
changes and causes the sound to drop out. They have a work around
firmware update, that has yet to be released, that can be used for the
Dtxtreme IIS module, since it's bios can be updated via software. The
Dtxpress module would need a hardware ROM chip replacement, which would
be more expensive to do.

As far as I know it is a fixed 32 note polyphony limit.

> Isn't the cutting out of an existing sound what we're talking about?

Yes, I think so, which is why I don't think the limit to the number of
voices would sound like the kick not working when you hit the hi-hat.
