My midi problems solved

2006-07-01 by Mike

I figured I'd post this in case anyone else goes though the midi
nightmare that I did. I bought the Midisport Uno USB midi adapter
from Guitar Center and was all excited for it to work with BFD. No
dice. I spent hours and hours trying to get it to work with BFD,
Sonar5, DFH, RMX, no luck at all. A guy I know with a lot of midi
experience came over, and he was stumped too.

I went to http://www.dtxpressions.com/setup.htm#setup3 and followed
the instructions exactly and it still didn't work. I finally
rebooted both the drumkit and the computer, and was suddenly able to
upload a kit to the DTX brain with DTXCHANGE. The midi monitor
program on that site showed me exactly what was going on. I thought,
OK, I fixed it, but then when I did a roll, midi monitor would
register 2 hits and then stop seeing anything. I remember the post
in here from a while back where a someone else was having the same
problem and someone else said the Midisport Uno was crap.

Taking that suggestion, I ordered the Yamaha UX16 USB adapter from
www.music123.com, installed the drivers, plugged it in and
EVERYTHING worked right out of the box. Amazing. All those
troubleshooting hours of learning software, experimenting, etc, and
it was the stupid Midisport. A guitarist I know says he loves it for
what he does, but all I can say is that it didn't work worth crap on
my DTX3.

Thanks to the guy who said that it's crap, otherwise I wouldn't have
bought the Yamaha one, and I'd probably still be troubleshooting
right now.
