Keith,

A lot of our business has come from people who just bought a Yamaha
kit or were considering it. When they get their questions answered,
many of them never return, though they remain on the books as
members. In the early days, we were pioneers. The people who joined
were eager to find others willing to discuss problems, possibilities,
functions, and developments. We also had input from companies. I had
a direct pipeline to Pintech and Visulite, for example; OGD was
chummy with Yamaha's electronic division. But many things have
changed since then. E-drums have proliferated (and, arguably,
stalled since the days when they were innovations) and so have the
websites dedicated to them. Yamaha even has its own site now, which
does a lot of the work that we used to do; Pintech has changed hands
and no longer works closely with us (despite my entreaties a couple
of years ago). Many early adopters have advanced to other equipment,
and the wear and tear of life and other forms of depreciation have
cut into the time that the moderators have had to stimulate the
group. Resurgence is not out of the question, but slow, steady growth
with some problem solving ain't all that bad for the time being.
