I've been using the DTXpress in my home studio for about 6 months now and it's OK for guide tracks. But in the cold light of DI, the sounds are nowhere near as good as an acoustic kit. My main gripe is that whatever kit you use, the overall sound is thin and uninvolving. There's a lack of stereo wideness - obviously you can't use overheads for ambience. The dynamics are quite flat although you'll need a compressor to control the peaks coming from the kick. Because what you get on your track is what comes from the box's output, there is little you can do with the final recorded material except maybe EQ and compression. For serious recording, I'd not use the DTXpress unless I had a certain sound programmed that I couldn't get anywhere else. Its sounds just don't hold up to the close scrutiny of a studio recording environment. For live work, however, the DTXpress is superb. Through the right PA, it sounds as good as any acoustic kit - if not better. The sound is more controllable and everything's ready mixed. It's easy to set up and take down. I love using it for gigs. I love the way people come up after the show and drool over it. I wouldn't change it for the world. (well, maybe a new set of V-Drums ;) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! Messenger http://im.yahoo.com
