I can't imagine that on a level playing field, the signal from the DTX would improve noticeably through a cable with an XLR end; after all, the point of a balanced cable is noise reduction, which doesn't seem relevant in this case. No matter. The phantom power issue gives me a scare, too. You might cause some damage, or, at the very least, significant hum. You can't defeat phantom power on each input? Too bad.
