You can actually set the volume for each pad separately. You can also set the attach, decay, and reverb for each head. Look in the manual and you'll find the process to do it. If you don't have a manual let me know and I'll scan the appropriate pages and send them to you. Don't forget, you can also just record the MIDI stream from your drum kit and then assign drum sounds to it later. I use Garage Band and Logic Pro to record my sessions. Use the audio out ports on the back for the best sound. I usually record the audio and MIDI at the same time. Don't forget, you can also change the sounds that are assigned to each head and you can tune the head to the notes that you prefer. Experiment with the cymbal sounds too, there are lots of choices. There's a table in the back of the manual that shows all the possible sound assignments.
