Onstage monitoring

2001-10-11 by davidoz@froggy.com.au

Any suggestions as to a good onstage monitor to use.
We are currently using a foldback wedge with a 12" speaker with a
horn driver.(Unknown Brand)
While this wedge is good for vocals and other instruments the dynamic
range of the Drum sounds often exceeds the speakers capabilties
(especially when more than two voices are used at once)plus the way
this wedge colours the sound is not too good.
They say front of house sounds really good but what I get is pretty
ordinary.
We run a mono house mix, output from the DTX head of course is mono
and the return from the desk to foldback amp is the same.
I also get 2 Keyboards(Roland Epiano + Synth), vocals and songleader
into this monitor.
We now don't have a big onstage sound (this was one of the reasons
for getting the DTX)so all I'm really looking for is something that
will give a decent drum sound without the need to blow everybody else
away.
Any suggestions??
