Hi, I'll try to do it short, we could talk nights and days about Midi: _ .wav file is a sound file ( same as .aiff for Mac). You use a midi command to trigger a .wav file ( in a sampler for ex.) _ .mid file ( and the Midi norm) contains only notes and commands. It's a programation language to link and control several devices such as keyboard, expander, e drums etc... You can trigger a software sampler with the DTXpress using Midi out. Sometimes the note numbers change from branb to brand, has to be worked out. _ .syx is a file with only commands ( sysex). Each brand, device has his own sysex chart and usualy do respond to generic midi ( GM on/off, GS, reset, sound effect, reverb...) You can send individuel sysex or complete files ( bulk) to reset, change, tweak anything made accessible by the manufacturer, using a sequencer, hardware (controler like BCR 2000) or small programs like MidiOx.If you use several devices, each can have a number and respond only his commands. For the DTXpress, you can export the songs, the kits, tweak it with your PC, save it as .syx file and resend it to the DTXpress. I use a software called "dEXTD". You have also DTExchange DTXWiz. If you want to apply sound effects to DTXpress (other than reverb and pan) , the only way is to plug the audio out in a soundcard and rework the sound with software effects. VST is a norme for plug-ins, used as standalone ( .exe) or in a host software ( .dll file) to create sounds, use effects or even instruments. Now it depends, what your intending to do. Hope its usefull for you, and a minimum clear. cheers Claude Keith a \ufffdcrit : > > --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com <mailto:DTXpress%40yahoogroups.com>, > "Jay Max" <byteotech@...> wrote: > > > > I`m looking for a simple program that can add sound effects and midi > > files to the dtxpress and transfer files from the dtxpress to computer. > > I have a laptop p3 1ghz 256 ram 30 gig windows xp.using a midi to usb > > connection.
