Getting better open hihat sounds from DTXpress IV w/ regular pad

2011-08-15 by Leho

Hi DTXppl

I'm a beginner recreational drummer, I have the same kit as displayed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovl8KoWpC6k, i.e. I don't have a cymbal hihat like RHH-130 or 135. Yet. Not sure if that makes a difference regarding what I'm trying to figure out.

I don't have much acoustic experience so that's possibly a reason why I can't figure this out on my own. Listening to recorded music, it feels like playing open/slushy hihats should sound more as a constant flow of slush, instead of each separate pad hit clearly sounding as a separate sample. I want to achieve that slush flow on the e-drum.

Any drumbrain tuning tips you pros could share in regards to this?

Maybe you could also suggest/point to some well known good combos of hihat + ride + crash sample names, that work well together.

Please let me know if I'm not coming across very clear in this initial posting. Thanks for taking time to read this.
