You need to set the pad midi channel to 10 for each pad. 10 is drums in midi. Leave the program change message set to -- (no value). Hit the function button and change the pad midi channel to 10. From there you can assign midi note to each pad to get the sounds you like. On the DTXIII, change to whatever sound library you want. They are listed in the back of the manual. Changing the library, say rock kit to jazz kit, will change the midi note sound. So you can leave the settings on the control pad and change the kits on the dtx to get different snare or kick drum sounds. I used my control pad with my dtxIII for cymbal sounds mounted over my floor tom pad. Bottom four are ride cymbals and a remote hi hat and the top 4 are all crashes. You cant layer sounds on the control pad. One midi note at a time per pad on the alesis. I would also check into changing the velocity. I tend to to put the rides on 3 to make em a bit louder and the crashes on 2, which makes them quiet. Midi map here: http://www.zendrum.com/resource-site/drumnotes.htm Good tutorial here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TyVx8YEvvk&feature=fvwrel Good luck. --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, "aquiliawa" <blameless@...> wrote: > > New to the group but stoked to find so much good information here. I think from reading the manual that I need to create a usermap(?) but can't seem to get my head around it. > > Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks. >
