Re: I'm thinking about getting a DTXpress and have a question

DTXpress 1-8 inputs are stereo. You can either use mono pads (TP60,
TP80, PCY60, PCY80, etc.) or stereo pads (TP80S, PCY80S, etc) on them
but not dual pads (actually you can but it will simply act as a mono
pad).

9/10 is two_mono_inputs (or ONE_dual_input). You can use two mono
pads or one dual pad, but not stereo pads (again, you CAN use stereo
pads here but they will exactly be like mono pads).

The difference between dual and stereo pads was hard to grasp for me.
Basically a dual pad is actually two mono pads (or a pad with two
different sections/zones/whatevers). You need to have to dual input
(or two mono) for this. As far as I understand Roland's mesh head
snare are dual pads. I believe Yamaha's only dual pad is BP80 (though
I do not know about DTXtreme pads).

A stereo input is actually one mono pad + one force resisting sensor.
You can use stereo pads (Yamaha's TP80S, PCY80S) in there.

Virtually each pad works on any input with different characteristics,
see below table:

What works where?
=================
Dual pad --> Dual input (or two mono inputs) : Two distinct sounds
Dual pad --> Mono or stereo input : Only one sound
Stereo pad --> Stereo input : Two distinct sounds
Stereo pad --> Mono or dual input : Only one sound
Mono pad --> Any input : Only one sound

Anyone care to correct me here?

As for the advantages or disadvantages of one against the other I
really do not know. Probably stereo pads are cheaper to produce...
