Can anyone say: dtxpress clone? Roland has always had better drum sounds than Yamaha ( re: D series synths ), but Yamaha has always been way ahead of the curve on features, ease of use, aesthetics, etc. We're comparing apples to oranges here. Roland has had a couple of years to learn from Yamaha's shorcomings in the 'low end' market, and most professionals don't use the stock sounds anyway. The dtxpress is what it is - an entry level practice kit. I certainly wouldn't rely on plastic anything on the road but for my home studio it's aces. If you want to compare kits, go back 15 years to the Drum Kat, which had more features and reliable triggering and more programatic flexibility than either of these two units. It was WAY too complicated for most drummers, who 'just wanted to play'. About sounds? Well, ram / rom is cheap these days so we'll obviously have better sounds today then even 2 years ago in the pcm market. And that's been the case ever since drums have been electronic so the best approach towards buying a drum set is NOT what does it sound like today, but does it trigger reliably so that when I buy that $15,000 sampler, I know it'll work. I'm not a Yamaha evangelist, just a little miffed that people come on a Yamaha group hawking Roland. Go get your own group. "Roanld B. Singleton" wrote: > I agree! Bought my TD-6 yesterday.
