Ecymbal II review.
I just received a Hart Ecymbal II 14" crash cymbal
and have a 12" crash on the way.
When I took it out the box I was a little
disappointed. I was under the impression from what I had been reading that
this was a real metal cymbal with a coating over it to make it quiet. Well
it's not, It appears to be plastic with a gold foil type covering on
it. It feels a little flimsy.
I mounted it on my DTXpress kit with the supplied
cymbal spring and started banging away. The first thing I noticed is that
the cymbal is extremely loud when hit. I also noticed that the gold foil
covering started to chip on the edge of the cymbal from being hit with the
stick.
To my surprise the cymbal played excellent, it
triggers perfectly and acts and feels like the real thing. It also looks
great. I ended up taking the rubber off of a pcy 60 pad and put it on the
ecymbal to dampen the noise. That worked out very well. It did hot affect the
triggering at all and reduced the noise to about the same as the pcy
60.
Positives:
- Triggers and tracks extremely
well
- Looks and acts like a real
cymbal
- easy to set up with not much tweaking with
DTXpress module
- looks great with the DTX kit
Negatives:
- very loud with out a rubber pad on
it
- gold foil covering chips easily on
edges
Over all:
It's a great addition to my kit.
It triggers and tracks much better than the pcy 60 or 80. It has a real
feel and look when played. Hart really needs to add the rubber pad on the
crash ecymbals as they do on the ride and the high hats. A rubber strike
zone eliminates the noise and reduces the chipping on the edge of the cymbal.
Over all thumbs up!! It's a great product.
