For info I use an Alesis 3630 stereo compressor for general purpose recording (cost about \ufffd109 inc VAT from Academy of Sound) - very pleased with it. I also have two for live work (usually for vocals and mic'd guitars). However, I've had no problem with the stereo outputs through our PA set-up (non compressed).
