Here's my input: You can save anytime you want. Any time you make a change you know you want to save, you should save it before you procede. If you make a killer snare, save it before you move on to the toms. Then, if you do something really wierd, and want to start from scratch, you can just change kits. this erases all the changes you made since you last saved, and the killer snare is still saved! The boombox question isn't dumb. The input can handle the headphone output. That's why there is a volume control (on the boombox AND DTX cd input). A headphone amp is a big help. or even a small mixer with headphone output. With a mixer, you can mix the boombox ,too, with better tone control. Many express users use mixers. Here's a tip on creating tom toms. The toms are named 1, 2 , 3 or high, mid, low etc. Sometimes a low pitched mid sounds better than a low tom. For example, say I have my first tom as maple 12. My second tom would normally be maple 14. but i like the sound of the 12 better, so I select that one, and tune it lower. And don't forget the reverb level,Decay and cutoff frequency. You have a lot of options with the sounds.(a word about reverb: sometimes a little goes a long way, big reverb sounds very cool, but it can rob the drums of their punch, and that initial attack. Be judicious.Drums are not percussion with out that percussion!) Hope this helps.
