Well here goes: I'd know you have to use a sequencing program in order to make your own songs so i wondered on how to go about that using Logic. What I'd like to do is create a song and trigger it using a pad and then of course play along with the kit. SEA: Well this can be done, Logic can respond to commands via MIDI, you'll need to assign the play / record functions to a specific MIDI channel, and note, and then insure that the pad you intend to set Logic in motion corresponds to that information. Personally, I would make life a lot easier and set up a blank song form within the DTX, make sure that it's sending MIDI clock, and clock Logic from the DTX. When you hit the Start/Stop button on the DTX Logic should start. Saves a pad, and less messy.. Do you create a tune in logic using another midi source? That I do using a Korg keyboard but can you create the tune and then dump it to the DTX2? SEA: I can, and do use that method. You'll find that the DTX's memory is less than generous. You can store a song in the memory, but you might not have enough to record new data. Here's my work around..... I have a Roland VS-840. I save my current song to the VS, set it to send MIDI clock, I then set the DTX to record, but have it's sync set to 'ext'. When I hit play on the VS the DTX starts recording. As it's only recording it's own MIDI data you get to record several 'takes' before the memory buffer is full. I then just sync the DTX up to Logic, and record the DTX's output into Logic for editing. I also have a Yamaha MDF-2 data drive... Here I use the above method, but sync the DTX to the data drive, record the DTX's output, then I place the disk into the PC, rename the files to end with .mid, and then import the data into Logic using it's MIDI file import feature. Also can you create a nice loop and triiger it with a pad and then change the key and trigger it afterward with the same pad? I have more questions but I'll hit you witn them later :-) SEA: Not sure about this one, I know you can trigger loops using the pads, but changing it's key and retriggering it using the same pad? I think the DTX only lets you start a loop, and then if you hit the pad, stops the loop. Perhaps other DTXers can think of a solution to this one... the Sonic Energy Authority - a sound investment
