snare/rim separation

2003-01-17 by mkotke <mkotke@yahoo.com>

I was fiddling with my week-old kit last night and came
across an interesting problem. I was trying to get
different snare sounds for the main pad and rim 2; for
example, a maple snare with a blue90 rim (not exactly what I
was after, but you get the idea). Anyway, after I had set
up the rim to the sound I liked, I started trying out
different snares. The problem was, everytime I switched the
snare, the rim would change to match the snare. So, if I
changed the snare to a metal snare, the pad would change to
a
metal rim. Couldn't figure out why this was happening, so I
got out of the edit mode, turned it off, and started over
again from the beginning. THIS time, I was able to get
complete separation of rim / snare effects.

In the end I was able to get what I wanted, but my question
is, what was happening that "linked" the snare/rim sounds?
I'm sure I changed some parameter accidentally, but I'd like
to know which one so I can avoid / use that feature in the
future at will, rather than randomly. Thanks...
