Re: Help With HiHat Settings...What Am I Doing Wrong???

2003-01-28 by liberatusvirus <liberatusvirus@yahoo.com>

FC, or frequency cutoff, is a measure of how bright you want the
sound to be; the higher the brighter. The Note # is the midi note
number assigned to a particular input (forget about it until you
start trying to send midi notes to an external device--like the
midiKITI). The "Copy to" function allows you to transfer the
settings from one input to another. It's irrelevant for now.

The drop-outs on the hi hat are probably due to your trigger
settings being too high--most likely input 8's (hit hat) specific
rejection of input 2 (snare). If the snare is dropping out, just
reverse the direction. The gain for the snare or hh might also come
into play; don't go too high for now. (I'm guessing that your min.
vel. isn't at fault because you don't seem to indicate that the
difficulties come with light hits.) Stay with the pad gain default
until you lick the drop-out problem. Check the January posts about
snare/hh interaction, which go into more detail about the rejection
parameters.

As for the shoop, you can get it. First, you shouldn't expect
hitting the rim of a rubber pad to deliver the same result as
hitting the rim of an acoustic hi hat cymbal. Whatever you do on the
gum rubber HH pad, do it toward the center. Next, you have to
experiment with HH sensitivity in the Voice menu and HH offset in
the Utility menu to get the HH controller to behave to your liking.
There's also a small knob at the head of your controller pedal that
can be adjusted with a drum key for further refinement. If I
remember correctly (and I may not), my HH Offs was at 0 and my
sensitivity at 20.
