Re: [DTXpress] Re: Low volume

2000-04-18 by Mark Owen

I just spoke to a friend who works for Mission/Cyrus here in Canada:
The Cyrus amps have no actual pre-amp stage. In simple terms, it is a
power amp, with a function select and attenuator (volume control) for
purest signal path. Most domestic hi-fi stuff has a pre-amp and power-
amp involved so that quieter signals can be pre-amplified before
being
sent to the power amplifier. So running the Cyrus with the volume
control wide open treats it as a basic power amplifier. He says it
actually sounds best this way...so go ahead and run your DTXpress as
the pre-amp/volume control, and your Cyrus as a power amp. No sense
having two volume controls in the signal path. Just remember to turn
the Cyrus VC all the way down if you are making connections. (He made
me say that.)
