> In the hypothetical discussions [Damon, Rob] : > There seems to be two major bad problems with the having this group at Yahoo but numerous good ones. One is the porn/spam, which could be solved by having a moderator and restricted access. The down side to restricted access is that non-registered, casual readers may be put off by it. There are several other Yahoo groups I have thought would be interesting to following, but I don't because it they are restricted. The second problem is the advertisement. Nothing that you can do about that considering we are getting access to this site for FREE!!!!! Why not let the one problem eliminate the other problem? For example, (here comes the "we have power in numbers" speech) everytime a advertisment pops up between viewing post, if every member were to email that specific advertiser (with a carbon copy to Yahoo service) that his/her ad was just viewed on Yahoo and that you and 700 members of this group plus an equal number of unregistered users are going switch to an alternate "non-adverstising" site because Yahoo refuses to allow us to assign a new moderator to the group. Also, note that there are minors that regularly access this group and that by them (the advertiser) not stepping in and helping out, that they are condoning the distribution of porn to the youth of our planet. Better yet, a copy of the email being sent to a local Better Business Organization, a Politician, a newspaper, etc. When advertising Dollars and the media talk, even mega organizations like Yahoo listen. Basically, we generate a standard form letter statement that can be used by all, store it the files area. This might change Yahoo's policy about not changing moderators, when the original moderators disappear. It would also end up helping not just this group but also the hundreds/thousands of other Yahoo groups. Wow. It's amazing what three creme filled, glazed, chocolate donuts first thing in the morning can do, to get the juices flowing. Sorry about the ranting and raving, I will be back to normal on Monday.
