Have you tried moving the pad to a different trigger input say 6 or 7, adjusting the voice and trigger settings to see if it works there? If it doesn't, then Stewart is correct, you probably have a broken rim switch. I have not read of a method for repairing them and the cost of a new rim switch is going to be more the a new pad.
